The vessel was built in 1921 by Stavanger Stoberi and Co., in Stavanger, Norway. In 1935, she was purchased by the Thorden Line of Finland and renames the Maud Thorden. Twenty years later she was acquired by the Finlake Line and renamed the Mariefors. The vessel sailed from Finland to the Great Lakes, along with her sister ships Helsingfors and Tammerfors, and provided Finland and the eastern Baltic with its only direct link to the Great Lakes trade.
