The S.S. Persia was built in St. Catharines, in 1873. Owned by James Norris of St. Catharines, from 1877 to 1894, it made regular stops at Cornwall. In 1894, she was acquired by the Toronto and Montreal Steamboat Co. In 1907 she passed to the Quebec Navigation Co. In 1911, she was badly damaged by fire, and in 1912 she was rebuilt as a barge.
