boat0033The Morrisburg was originally built as a grain lighter operating in Montreal harbour around 1904. Known as the H.M.C. No. 17, the boat was converted to a ferry with the installation of a Dutch Kromhout diesel engine built in 1916.

The boat was operated by the Morrisburg-Waddington Transportation Company and was captained by Douglas Cassel. The boat’s running mate was the Waddington, built in 1878.

The ferry sat rusting at its dock in Morrisburg for two years after she was decommissioned in 1953 when the Customs Office was closed.
