The Lockwell passing through the locks in the Morrisburg Canal, ca. 1935.

Lockwell, 1929-1961
aka J.N. McWatters, 1940-1959
Cardinal, 1960, never sailed under this name

The Lockwell was built by Swan Hunter and Wigham Richardson in Wallsend, England in 1929. She was acquired by the Welland Steamship Co. (Jenkins Steamship Co.) in 1929. In 1932, she sailed for the Huron Steamship Co. (Misener) out of Port Colborne until 1938. She then sailed for another Misener venture, the Sarnia Steamship Co., until 1951. Still with Misener, she carried the colours of the Colonial Steamship Co. from 1951 to 1959 when she sailed for Scott Misener Steamship Co. She was retired from service in 1959 and renamed the Cardinal so the name J.N. McWatters could be used on another boat. She was broken up in 1961.
