S.S. Britannic
aka Rocket 1866-1898 (sister ship Meteor)

The Britannic was originally constructed in 1866 as the tug-boat Rocket. She was built to tow Allan Line vessels up the St. Lawrence to Montreal. In 1892, she was converted into a yacht for Captain Allan of Sorel, Quebec. Seven years later she was refitted to be a freighter/passenger steamer along the St. Lawrence River. She sailed for the Montreal and Cornwall Navigation Company between the two cities from 1898 to 1901 when she was sent to work in Georgian Bay. In 1908 she resumed weekly service between Montreal and Kingston. The Britannic made her last trip between Montreal and Kingston in November, 1937 as one of the last remaining sidewheelers.
