The Avonwood was constructed in 1944 by Hall, Russell and Company Ltd. of Aberdeen, Scotland. She was the first vessel employed by the Constantine Lines of Middlesbrough, England used in their Canadian service, as well as the first foreign vessel to tie-up in Toronto harbour in 1953.
